Field notes from inside real Shopify stores.

What turned up in live accounts, including the things that made the reporting look worse before it looked better.

The short answer

These guides answer the questions Shopify store owners ask when sales are slow: why a store gets traffic but few sales, how products get found on Google, in Google Shopping and in AI answers, whether Klaviyo email is really working and which email platform to use, and whether the ads are worth what they cost. Each one is checked against the platforms' own documentation.

Where should you start?

  1. Run the free Traffic to Sales Check. Ten checks show which part of the store is leaking sales.
  2. If the store gets visitors and few orders, read Shopify store getting traffic but no sales?
  3. Then read the section below that matches what the checks turned up.
  4. See the fixes applied to one store, with the numbers, in the case study.

Why is my Shopify store not making more sales?

Start here if the store gets visitors and too few orders, or if the ads seem to be carrying the month. These guides go in order: find where the sales are leaking, fix the pages buyers land on, then read the reports that show what actually changed.

Which Shopify tips bring in more sales without more ads?

These are the fixes that come up again and again inside live stores. Most take minutes, use tools the store already has, and cost nothing. Each one links to the guide that goes deeper.

  1. Submit your sitemap in Google Search Console. Shopify creates it for you at yourstore.com/sitemap.xml and keeps it up to date, so this takes minutes. Shopify sitemap
  2. Publish your best sellers to Google's free listings. Install Shopify's Google & YouTube channel and check which products are actually published to it. Merchant Center, which powers the listings, is free. Google free listings
  3. Name products in the words buyers search. Shopify turns the product title into the page's main heading, so the title does double duty. Ecommerce keyword research
  4. Write your own product descriptions. Shopify warns that a manufacturer's text may already be on other websites. Product description examples
  5. Spell out the details buyers ask about. Size, material, weight, care and shipping time belong in the description, not only inside a size or color menu. AI search
  6. Give every collection a description of its own. Shopify's guidance is at least 250 words of descriptive text on every page. Shopify SEO
  7. Add alt text to every product image. Open the product, click the image, then Edit alt text, and describe what the image shows. Product image size
  8. See what shoppers type into your own store. In Shopify, open Analytics, then Reports, then Searches by search query. Traffic to Sales Check
  9. Find the searches where you almost rank. In Google Search Console, sort the Queries tab by Impressions and look for average positions between 8 and 20. Ecommerce SEO
  10. Handle sold-out products on purpose. Keep the page live for a product that is coming back, and redirect one that is gone for good to the closest product. Shopify redirects
  11. Read Total sales by referrer before you decide where to spend. It shows which channel Shopify credits with each sale, which is not always the channel taking credit. Shopify analytics
  12. Tag your ad links. UTM parameters on ad links let Shopify tell paid clicks apart from people who arrive from unpaid posts. Shopify Google Analytics
  13. Work out your break-even return on ad spend from your own margin. An industry average says nothing about your products. ROAS formula
  14. Check each email flow's sends against the people it should reach. On one store, a weekly email built for 488 people reached 13 in six weeks while it showed as live. Is your email really working?
  15. Stop cart reminders when someone buys. In Klaviyo, the flow filter Placed Order zero times since starting this flow does it. Abandoned cart emails
  16. Put sign-up forms on the pages that get traffic. A store can only email the visitors it can identify, and one store could identify about 0.8 percent of them. Visitor identification
  17. Judge email on clicks and orders, not open rate. Apple Mail opens many emails automatically, so an open does not prove anyone read the email. Your open rate is not real
  18. Make sure AI engines can reach the store. Check that AI crawlers are not blocked, and verify the store in Bing Webmaster Tools as well as Google, because OpenAI says ChatGPT search partners with other search providers and points to Microsoft’s privacy statement, and Microsoft runs Bing. How are these guides written?

Every guide is checked against Shopify’s, Google’s and Klaviyo’s own documentation, with the sources listed at the end. Where a guide shows a result from a live store, it gives the source, the dates and what the numbers do not prove. Client names are never published without permission.

What is the difference between these guides and the services?

The guides show how to check each problem yourself, with the reports to open and what to look for. The services are the same work done for you, inside your accounts, in the order that pays fastest. If a guide describes your store, the services page shows which service fixes it.
