Google Merchant Center and free listings for Shopify stores
Free product listings are sales inventory the store already owns. Most stores have never checked which of their products are actually published to them.
The check that usually finds money
Open your top products by revenue in Shopify and confirm each is published to the Google and YouTube channel. On the store in the case study, the quarter, half and whole beef products, the three highest value items in the catalog, were published only to the online store and point of sale.
Feed quality decides what shows
Titles, product types, variants and images decide which searches a product appears for and whether it gets disapproved quietly. Product feed optimization is fixing that data at the source instead of patching it in Merchant Center.
Free listings are not ads
Free listings cost nothing and are separate from paid Shopping campaigns. Keep them separate in reporting, or you cannot tell which one is earning.
What it produced
Free listing orders went from about 2 a month before the engagement to 12 in August, with 9 more in the first half of September.
Where this fits
This is the Get Found stage of The Money on the Table Method. See it applied to one store, with the numbers, in the case study.
Questions about this.
How do I get my Shopify products into Google Merchant Center?
Publish them to the Google and YouTube channel in Shopify, then fix whatever the feed rejects. The more common failure is simpler: the highest value products were never submitted at all.
