Klaviyo email for Shopify stores, checked against what sent

Email is the channel a store owns outright, and the one most likely to be quietly broken while every dashboard calls it live.

The one minute check

Compare sends against list size for every flow. On the store in the case study, a 13 email weekly sequence showed live for three weeks and had sent 7 emails in 90 days to 488 people. A sequence that size should send thousands in a quarter.

Why it happens

The flow was triggered on Added to List, which only fires for people added after the flow exists. The list was populated first, so nobody entered. The fix is Klaviyo's own backfill, starting people at the beginning rather than where they would be today. Weekly sends went from 52 to 552.

Capture comes before copy

Browse abandonment on that store looked broken at zero orders. It was starved: the store could identify about 0.8 percent of visitors. And with about 80 percent of checkout starts completing, the abandoned cart pool was roughly eight people a month. Neither was a subject line problem.

Read the right numbers

An open rate above roughly 50 percent is counting machine opens from Apple Mail. Judge email on clicks, revenue per recipient and orders, and check the platform's revenue claim against your own order records, because Klaviyo credits any email opened or clicked within its window.

Where this fits

This is the Get Names and Get Orders stage of The Money on the Table Method. See it applied to one store, with the numbers, in the case study.

Straight answers

Questions about this.

Is Klaviyo worth it for a Shopify store?

Yes, if the flows actually send. The common failure is not the platform, it is a flow reporting live while sending almost nothing. Check sends against list size first.

What is a good email open rate for a Shopify store?

Open rate is no longer a usable measure. Apple Mail Privacy Protection records machine opens, so anything above roughly 50 percent is mostly machines. Use clicks, revenue per recipient and orders.

Why is my Shopify abandoned cart email not producing sales?

Usually because almost nobody is eligible. Count the people who start checkout and do not finish. On one store with about 7,500 sessions a month, that pool was roughly eight people.
