What moved

Orders attributable to Google free product listings went from 2.0 a month to 5.8. This is free inventory the store already owned and was not using. The quarter, half and whole beef products, 31.5 percent of attributed revenue, were published only to the online store and point of sale. They had never appeared in a Google listing.

What it does not prove

The channel produced no orders from October through March and only began producing in April, so part of this is measured against a dead period. Against its own most recent two month baseline the lift is 16 percent on orders and 35 percent on revenue.

The work behind it

  • Audited which products were actually published to the free listings surface.
  • Found the three highest value products in the catalog had never been submitted.
  • Fixed feed level product data rather than treating it as an advertising spend question.
  • Separated free listings from paid shopping in reporting so each could be judged on its own.
